We're here to help

We understand that you might have some questions to get you started on your fundraising at Royal Voluntary Service.

To help you, we've pulled together examples of questions that other fundraisers have wanted to know.

Getting started

How do I start fundraising?

Choose your own activity or sign up for one of our campaigns, running events, treks or challenges, set up an online fundraising page, and let us know what you’re planning. We’re here to support you every step of the way. Stuck for an idea? Take a look at our Fundraising A-Z for inspiration.

Can I fundraise as part of a team?

Absolutely! We love supporting teams and helping you come together to fundraise. You can create an online team fundraising page or link individual pages together. This helpful page from JustGiving gives you step by step instructions on how to do so.

Are there any restrictions on what I can do?

Please make sure your activity is safe, legal, and aligns with our values:

  • Spark Brilliance
  • Better When Simple
  • Stronger Together
  • Step Forward

If you’re unsure, contact us before you start.

Handling donations

How do I collect donations?

You can use online platforms, cash collections, or QR codes. We recommend online fundraising for ease and security, JustGiving is a wonderful and convenient way to collect donations from your supporters.

If you want to collect money using a collection tin or arrange a bucket collection please let us know and we’ll help get you set up.

How do I send the money to the charity?

You can pay online, by bank transfer, or by sending a cheque. Details will be provided when you register your fundraiser with us. Tell us about your fundraiser by completing our online form.

Can people donate anonymously?

Yes, most platforms allow donors to hide their name if they wish. You can also make a donation online anonymously via our donation website.

Gift Aid

What is Gift Aid and how does it work?

Gift Aid is a UK government scheme that allows charities like the Royal Voluntary Service to claim an extra 25% on top of your donations by reclaiming the basic rate of tax you have already paid. For example, a £10 donation becomes £12.50 for us, and it doesn't cost you any extra! To participate, you must make a Gift Aid declaration, either by ticking a box when donating, filling out a form, or calling the Royal Voluntary Service.

Promoting your fundraiser

How can I share my fundraising page?

Share the link to your fundraising page on social media, via WhatsApp, email friends and family, add it to your email signature at work, and consider local press or community boards. If you need any tips, let us know.

Do you provide posters or materials?

Yes! We have branded templates and resources you can download, find them here: [link].
