Recognising the contribution of volunteers to communities around the UK

Volunteers’ Week takes place every year between 1-7 June every year and is dedicated to thanking volunteers and to give recognition not only to them but to the huge difference they make to people and their communities.

Thank you to all our volunteers for the support they have provided to people in their community and to the NHS over the last year. A real difference has been made to the lives of so many.

Thanks to Royal Voluntary Service and Volunteer Responders:

  • Over 1,120 people have been helped home from hospital reducing their likelihood of readmission
  • Around 48,000 hot meals and company served up at our lunch clubs alleviating loneliness and isolation
  • 1,000 people living with dementia and their carers have been supported helping those living with dementia maintain a healthy, active, social and stimulating lifestyle
  • Over 5 million NHS staff, visitors and patients have been served vital refreshments and often comfort when they need it most
  • 363,000 shifts at vaccination sites have been supported by Volunteer Responders helping the NHS to protect people against COVID.

“For many years I have had the pleasure of working alongside incredible volunteers every single day and seeing first-hand the difference that they make to the health, wellbeing and happiness of others. Active citizenship seen through the lens of formal and informal volunteering is at the beating hearts of our communities. Building resilience, connectedness and a network of support, the contribution that volunteers make to society is invaluable. So this Volunteers’ Week, let’s show volunteers in all corners of the country how proud and grateful we are for all that they do, because they couldn’t be more deserving of this recognition.”
