Royal Voluntary Service has appointed Stephen Dunmore OBE as the new Chair of Board of Trustees. Stephen, who takes over from Richard Greenhalgh, the charity’s Chair since 2012, will commence his new role on 19 September 2019.

His executive career spans the charity as well as government sectors with past roles including Chief Executive of the Big Lottery Fund and the Fundraising Regulator and Chair of Capacity Builders.

He is also currently Chair of the Grant-making Committee for The Prince’s Countryside Fund and Council Member and Treasurer of the Society of Antiquaries, which he will combine with his new role at Royal Voluntary Service.

"I am delighted with Stephen’s appointment as Chair of our board of trustees. His skills and diverse experience, combined with his outstanding record of strategic leadership, will be integral in helping us realise our ambitious plans for volunteering in Britain and we are all looking forward to working with him. Volunteering has so much to offer our communities and our citizens today – not least to those who give their time. Working with Stephen, we will continue to inspire and enable people across society to volunteer."

"I would also like to thank Richard Greenhalgh for his dedication and contribution over the past seven years during which time he has been instrumental in shaping the organisation to meet its long term strategic goals."

Catherine Johnstone CBE, Chief Executive of Royal Voluntary Service

"I am looking forward to working with the board of trustees and senior team to enable the charity to realise its five year plan. It’s a particular privilege to join a charity with such a rich history in voluntary service and one that is so relevant and needed today. I’m passionate about volunteering and believe the work the charity does to support the NHS and older people in the community is vital, particularly given the current pressure on public services."
