Why volunteer
Voluntary service is highly rewarding. It’s good for you, for community and for the country. Our 20,000 dedicated volunteers make a significant difference in society, meeting the needs of the day and supporting people in hospitals, at home and in the community. Through the gift of volunteering, we support the NHS and our ageing population, helping keep people happy, healthy and socially connected.

What volunteers do
Royal Voluntary Service volunteers provide practical help that makes a big difference. They provide companionship and support for lonely people. They choose and deliver books to people that can’t get to their local library. They drive people that can’t get out and about to GP and hospital appointments. They run social clubs, events and activities in local communities. They run exercise classes and activities in hospitals. They chat, read and play games with patients on hospital wards. They settle people back at home after a hospital stay. They serve healthy refreshments to hospital patients, visitors and NHS staff.

When and where to volunteer
Any time you can give to volunteer with Royal Voluntary Service is much appreciated. Our volunteers tell us that they find volunteering extremely satisfying. We offer flexible voluntary service in a wide variety of roles and locations so whether you have one hour a week or several days a month to give, we can find an opportunity to suit you. We embrace diversity. Our volunteers range in age and life stage from those in their teens to those in their 90s and come from different cultures and backgrounds, just like our clients. Each brings their own experiences and skills.
