Volunteer opportunities in Birmingham

Do you want to make a difference to someone in your local community? Here is a list of local and national opportunities available for volunteers of all ages to help people make the most of their life and spend time in their community.

Royal Voluntary Service

For our roles, we will provide all necessary training and, where required, a free DBS certificate.

NHS and Care Volunteer Responders

NHS and Care Volunteer Responders is a flexible volunteering programme supporting NHS England, Department of Health & Social Care and adult social care in England delivered by Royal Voluntary Service and GoodSAM.

Health and care teams can refer people for Check In and Chat and Check In and Chat Plus friendly telephone calls. They can also request Pick Up and Deliver support with the delivery of medication and supplies and Community Response support with essential shopping and prescription delivery. Steward Volunteers are available to help at vaccination sites.

Members of the public can request support from volunteers, either for themselves or someone they know (with that person’s permission).

RSPB

At the RSPB you don't have to know a Robin from a Redwing to get stuck in. Volunteering roles can be tailored to your skills, interests and circumstances – join and help make a bigger, better impact for nature and the environment.

From home-based online roles available UK wide, to in-person roles available locally, there are so many ways you can volunteer, including under the age of 18. Explore these roles to find out more.

Online/UK wide (home-based) roles include:

  • RSPB Team Member (Event Planner; High Value Fundraising, GIS Analyst, Training and Helpdesk Team, Conservation Data, Community Talks Creator or Supporter Publications volunteer)

Birmingham-based RSPB roles include:

  • Youth Group Assistant Leader (Kingsbury Kingfishers Wildlife Explorer Group)
  • RSPB Team Member (Innovation Workshop Volunteer Birmingham)
  • Practical Reserve Work (Friday work party volunteer)
  • Youth Volunteer Leader (Work Party Leader for group of 13 - 17 year olds)

NSPCC

The NSPCC are looking for great people to help them prevent child abuse and keep children safe.

Childline - As a Childline volunteer you'll be there for young people when they feel they have no one else to turn to, by giving a regular shift of up to 4 hours each week at one of their 12 Childline bases across the UK. 

Schools Service - Their volunteers visit local primary schools twice a month and run age-appropriate Speak Out Stay Safe workshops.

St. John Ambulance

For under 18 year olds there are St. John Ambulance cadets which have many volunteering opportunities open to them, most volunteering opportunities are for cadets aged 14+. Visit sja.org.uk

Big Help Out: 7-9 June 2024

The Big Help Out is a voluntary initiative supported by some of the UK’s biggest volunteer organisations which provides opportunities for people to experience volunteering, without any ongoing commitment, making a difference in their communities.
