Shaping the future with a high-impact volunteering strategy

Discover how we developed an evidence-based
strategic framework to help Ronald McDonald
House Charities UK unlock the full potential of its
volunteering network and futureproof its operations.

Elevating Volunteering potential

Optimising and enhancing volunteering programmes enables charities and businesses to drive meaningful, measurable impact.

Recognising this, Ronald McDonald House Charities UK partnered with us to elevate and scale its volunteering programme. Together, we developed a strategic, high-impact framework to unlock the full potential of its volunteer network and build a robust foundation for continued success.

Challenge

For Ronald McDonald House Charities UK volunteers are vital. Located across 14 Houses in the UK, the charity’s volunteers help thousands of families every year.

With a new five-year organisational impact strategy in place, it recognised an opportunity to redesign its volunteer programme to ensure long-term stability and maximise impact.

The charity partnered with us to identify and build on existing strengths and explore untapped opportunities, focusing on key challenges such as volunteer management.

Solution

Our consultants led an end-to-end review of the charity’s volunteering offer using our newly developed Diagnostic Tool, engaging stakeholders across Ronald McDonald House Charities UK’s operations, from leadership and corporate teams to volunteers and service users.

We uncovered several opportunities to boost efficiency and consistency and enhance the volunteer experience. Using our insights, we shaped a three-phase, 12-month roadmap, which included recommendations to:

  • introduce a unified volunteer strategy
  • improve consistency in volunteer management
  • align corporate engagement with the charity’s goals
  • implement metrics to track outcomes.

Outcome

Our transformation plan and strategic roadmap not only addressed Ronald McDonald House Charities UK’s immediate challenges but has laid the foundation for a scalable and robust volunteering model for the future.

The charity is well-positioned to support more families in crisis and has a clear, actionable plan to attract and retain volunteers while growing mission-aligned corporate partnerships.
