Volunteering in action
Each week, colleagues from British Gas volunteer at Macclesfield District General Hospital, taking our much-loved trolley service around the wards. Stocked with healthy snacks and everyday essentials, the trolley is more than just a convenience; it’s a vital service for patients, especially for those who may not have visitors or who are unable to reach the hospital shop. Just as importantly, it’s a chance for a friendly chat and a boost of human connection during their stay.
The partnership has proved incredibly rewarding for everyone involved:
- For patients, it brings comfort, care and connection.
- For British Gas colleagues, it’s a chance to give back and grow. One volunteer told us: “Volunteering has developed my confidence, and I’ve become a lot more comfortable with talking to new people. It’s also given my mental wellbeing a boost.”
