Join the 100 Million Hour Movement

Together, let's double the impact of employee volunteering by end of 2028.

The pledge

The 100 Million Hour Movement has been created in response to declining workforce morale and engagement and rising pressures in communities. It’s a national call for collective action to strengthen both workforces and society, powered by employee volunteering

From major corporates to SMEs, public sector organisations and not-for-profits, we’re calling on all UK employers to pledge to take three steps  to increase participation in employee volunteering in their workplaces. These are:

  • 1. Lead from the front

When senior leaders get involved it sends a powerful signal that volunteering matters. Endorsement and inspiration from management normalises participation and gives employees permission to get involved.

  • 2. Open it up

Only around a third of the UK workforce are offered volunteering time by their employer. Make volunteering accessible to more colleagues, regardless of their role, location or working pattern to build a more inclusive culture and to increase uptake and impact.

  • 3. Make it easy

The easier it is to get started the more people are likely to keep going. Remove friction by providing clear guidance and simple sign-up pathways - supported by platforms like GoVo for Business which make it easy to find, apply and track volunteering opportunities.

Stronger workplaces. Thriving communities.

We’re a nation under stress. Communities are divided, trust is low and loneliness and anxiety are rising. Workplace wellbeing and morale are declining, while charities face a growing volunteer gap that threatens vital services.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

Expanding employee volunteering is a practical solution that can transform both workplaces and society.

Double the hours. Double the impact.

Volunteering is a proven tool for tackling many pressing workforce challenges and for delivering social impact, yet less than a third of offered time is currently used. Millions of hours go to waste every year – creating lost value for everyone.

To change that, Royal Voluntary Service is stepping up with shared goal. We want to double the number of employee volunteering hours activated from 50 million a year to 100 million by the end of 2028.

"Driving communities to thrive, boosting productivity and wellbeing in the workplace and enabling charities and community groups to secure the volunteers they need means we can’t afford to wait.  Enabling " Volunteering For All" is our central proposition across the UK and that is why we’re launching this campaign. Joining the 100 Million Hour Movement is an opportunity to strengthen your organisational resilience and create positive ripple effects across society."
