Coronavirus support from Royal Voluntary Service
Royal Voluntary Service has always stepped forward at times of great national challenge. The coronavirus outbreak is an unprecedented event in our lifetime and we are mobilising our staff and volunteers to do whatever they can to help.

Impact of easing of restrictions on our services

The information below addresses what relaxation of the rules will mean for identified services as follows:

Supporting people at home

Home visits
England, Scotland & Wales - service can re-commence following the social distancing and safety guidance already in place.

Home Library Services
England, Scotland & Wales - service can continue following the social distancing and safety guidance already in place. This includes going into clients’ homes.

Social activities

Community centres & day centres

England, Scotland & Wales – can fully reopen with indoor hospitality. All COVID-secure measures must be implemented.
Indoor groupings:
  • England – no restriction on numbers.
  • Scotland – groups of 10 people from 4 households.
  • Wales – groups of 6 people.
Lunch Clubs
England, Scotland & Wales – can fully reopen with indoor hospitality. All COVID-secure measures must be implemented.

Activity groups
England, Scotland & Wales – can fully reopen. All COVID-secure measures must be implemented.
Indoor groupings:
  • England – no restriction on numbers.
  • Scotland – the maximum number of people who can meet socially indoors in a public place (not a home) is 10 which can be from up to 4 separate households.
  • Wales – groups of 6 people.
Garden visits
England, Scotland & Wales – service can continue following the social distancing and safety guidance already in place.

Group outdoor activities
  • England – no restriction on numbers.
  • Scotland – up to 15 people will be able to take part in an organised outdoor activity, providing all social distancing, hand hygiene and other COVID safety measures are followed.
  • Wales – no restrictions on numbers for an organised outdoor activity, providing all social distancing, hand hygiene and other COVID safety measures are followed.
Accompanied Walks
England, Scotland & Wales – service can continue following the rules around meeting other households (as above) and following the social distancing and safety guidance already in place.

Getting out and about

Patient and Community Transport
England, Scotland & Wales – service can continue following the social distancing and safety guidance already in place.

Services in hospitals

Shops & Cafés
England, Scotland & Wales - Can fully commence with COVID-secure measures already implemented. Face masks are to be worn by all members of staff and face coverings are to be worn by all customers. An official NHS QR code poster must be displayed within all cafés that provide a seated area so that customers sitting in our cafés can ‘check in’ using the test and trace app as an alternative to providing their details.
Indoor seating:
  • England – no restriction on numbers.
  • Scotland – groups of 10 people from 4 households.
  • Wales – groups of 6 people.
Meet & Greet

On Ward Services

For those unable to access community activities in person, our popular, free Virtual Village Hall connects people online and helps you to stay active, with hundreds of free activities to try.
