Mary's story
I joined as a volunteer in 1984 with the selfish motive of meeting people, when we relocated to Scotland from South East England. It certainly worked. I've met many wonderful people, both other volunteers and the marvellous older people who use our services. I say older but some of them are now younger than I am!
In Scotland I had many roles, sometimes taking on the organising once I'd learned the ropes. First Meals on Wheels, then deputy district organiser, trainer, training manager, Vice-Chairman's Committee Member and emergency services organiser.
I've continued as a volunteer ever since, including when we relocated again to Betws-y-Coed to be near our daughter and grandchildren. I have enjoyed every minute.
