The WVS Bulletin and WRVS Magazine, its layout, written and pictorial content is the copyright of either Royal Voluntary Service or third party credited contributors.
Royal Voluntary Service has made the Bulletin available free to download and use for non-commercial purposes under a CC Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs (CC BY-NC-ND) Creative Commons licence for the benefit of all.
This means you can share and reproduce the content of the Bulletin or Magazine for any non-commercial use which does not directly or indirectly make or generate money. As long as you:
- Credit Royal Voluntary Service and/or the third party contributor.
- Reference the issue and page of the Bulletin/Magazine from which it came.
Some examples of non-commercial use might include (but it is for you to consider and satisfy yourself):
- School projects
- University essays, dissertations and theses
- Local history displays (where there is no entrance fee or commercial gain by the publisher or presenter)
- Educational lectures and talks (where there is no entrance fee or commercial gain by the publisher or presenter)
- Websites and social media of non-commercial bodies/individuals, where it is not being used for marketing, fundraising or promotional purposes.
If you remix, transform or build upon the material, eg edit it and include it as part of a video, you may not publish or distribute it, outside the principals of fair dealing without the permission of the Royal Voluntary Service or the credited third party contributor.
You must NOT use the content of the Bulletin or Magazine for commercial purposes, unless the use falls within the principals of fair dealing. You should refer to the Copyrights Designs and Patents Act 1988 (as amended) and if necessary take legal advice . Please note that each article in the Bulletin or Magazine, is a separate work.
Some examples of a commercial use might include (but it is for you to consider and satisfy yourself):
- Selling copies of the work
- Charging for access to the work
- Any use in commercial advertising or marketing or promotional activities (also applies to not-for profit organisations and charities)
- Inclusion of quotes (outside fair dealing) in any material for sale (including academic journals).
For any proposed use of the content of the Bulletin/Magazine which may fall outside of the Creative Commons licence or principals of fair dealing, users should in the first instance contact Royal Voluntary Service, who may be able to assist.

While we would very much like you to give us your permission for the article to remain in the online version of the Bulletin/Magazine, we will redact your article if you request us to do so.
You may also see that the Bulletin/Magazine includes copies of letters and articles by Government Minsters and civil servants, NHS staff , Ministries such as the Ministry of Food and service personnel all of which are Crown copyright. Crown copyright public sector information is reproduced under the Open Government licence v3.0.
