Legal & General have supported Royal Voluntary Service since 2014 including the funding of a new Home from Hospital Service at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth
. Home from Hospital
is a vital service for older people, providing structured support from a caring volunteer who helps them on the road to recovery after a stay in hospital. This generous support has enabled us and our volunteers to make a tangible difference to the lives of over many older people in and around Portsmouth.
In 2018 and 2019 the Legal & General Retirement team across all four regional offices in Cardiff, Hove, London and Solihull committed to giving the gift of voluntary service every week for a year as well as fundraising £40,000. Dress down days, raffles and sports challenges are just some of the activities that have been planned. This money will help Royal Voluntary Service support more people across the country; in hospital, at home and in the community.
Launched in Cardiff, the Legal & General volunteers took the trolley to each ward in the Velindre Cancer Centre every Friday afternoon, chatting to patients and staff along the way. Staff from the Hove, Solihull and London offices also volunteered their time either on trolley rounds or in hospital cafés and shops over the year.
Legal & General Retirement also supported a Royal Voluntary Service’s volunteer recruitment campaign.
Together we wanted to inspire more people to step forward and volunteer, especially those who are no longer working or moving toward retirement. We know that positive ageing - keeping purposeful, active and connected – is vitally important too. Research shows that people who volunteer report feeling happier and healthier.
Our charity partnership with Legal & General Retirement began in 2014 and since then their staff have experienced the rewards of volunteering, by supporting our work in the NHS, running hospital cafés and on ward retail trolley rounds with the support of local volunteers.
Knowing first-hand the benefits of volunteering, Legal & General Retirement was delighted to support Royal Voluntary Service’s flagship volunteer recruitment campaign which encouraged everyone to volunteer their talent; whether that’s making a perfect cup of tea in a hospital café, playing the piano, speaking a foreign language, or just being able to have a bit of banter and share a smile.
