Northumberland

Royal Voluntary Service can help older people maintain their independence and stay involved in the local community.

We have volunteers across Northumberland who offer help and support so older people can stay independent at home in Berwick, Alnwick, Hexham, Morpeth, Blyth and the surrounding areas.

For more information just ask! Call us on 01668 260248, 0845 266 8906 or click on the get help in this area button and we’ll be in touch.

Get help at home

As everyone is different, Royal Voluntary Service can tailor support to your individual needs. We’ll visit you at home and work with you to create a support package that suits you. This may include:

  • A lift to an appointment at the doctors or hospital
  • Someone to take you to the shops or to visit friends
  • Help with your shopping
  • Some company and a chat with regular visits from a Royal Voluntary Service volunteer
  • Befriending including Good Neighbours
  • Collecting a prescription
  • Help with the garden or a little bit of practical help around the house
  • Lunch clubs and social activities including trips and days out
  • We can also deliver Meals on Wheels to your home if we have a social centre operating in your area.

Coming soon, a new Good Neighbours service covering the whole of Northumberland, please get in touch if you'd like more information.

All our volunteers have been DBS checked.

Get help in your community

We run lunch clubs and social clubs in Rothbury, Bedlington, Stocksfield, Alnwick, Wooler and Berwick where you can catch up with friends over a nutritious lunch time meal and stay the afternoon and enjoy some of our activities. If getting there is a problem, we can arrange transport for you.

We recognise how important transport is to keep you connected with local services, medical appointments or just to keep with touch with friends and family. Whether you live in the countryside or in towns or suburbs, our community transport services can keep you mobile.

We have a community transport service – Getabout Northumberland, a cost effective way to be transported and supported by our volunteers.

Please phone for more details of how to become a member, and how we can help you or your family.
