Frimley Park Hospital

Frimley Park Hospital Following two major refurbishments, the WRVS Frimley Park Hospital shop started to make a profit within just six months. Every year the net profit from the shop is gifted back to the hospital with around £40,000 being given annually.

This money has been used to pay for upgrading oxygen facilities throughout the hospital including new pieces of equipment for the intensive care unit.

Every year the hospital hosts a lunch for their WRVS volunteers to show their appreciation for all their hard work.

It’s a lot busier now than it has been in the past and we now stock many more products. I really enjoy working here; I feel appreciated by my manager and hospital which makes it worth while for me to come in.”

Brenda Irving, volunteer

“We've been able to increase the money we gift back to the hospital dramatically recently… over time we have built up a great rapport with the hospital and we feel really looked after.”

Suzanne Martin, Store Manager

“The business expanded to such an extent that in addition to paying the annual rent, WRVS has been able to undertake a substantial gifting to the trust. This additional money has been used to purchase equipment and provide services to patients over and beyond that which the trust is capable of doing from it’s own budget.

“Our most recent purchase of equipment used to cool the body temperature when a patient has suffered cardiac arrest. This greatly improves the outcome for the patient.

“This year we are planning to fund some equipment for the stroke unit, as well as transforming one of the courtyards at Frimley Park. The layout of the courtyard will need to be adjusted so that bed bound patients with advanced illnesses could spend some time outdoors.”

Mary Dunne, Director of Nursing, Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey
